WIXOSS is a card game that's popular with teenagers. Supposedly there exist "LRIG Cards," female character cards with wills of their own. Special girls can hear the voices of the LRIGs, and those who possess them are called "Selectors." These Selectors have card battles in a dimension that other humans cannot access. It's said that whoever triumphs in these battles will have their wish granted. Ruko Kominato is the latest girl to find a LRIG card. She names hers Tama, and without any further explanation is thrown into her life as a Selector.

In the story, WIXOSS is a hugely popular card game, particularly among middle school children. But few know of LRIG Cards, "the female cards who possess their own will." Only special girls canhear the voice of LRIG, and those who possess these cards are called selectors. Selectors are given the choice to battle using the WIXOSS card game and have their wish granted if they defeat three other Selectors. However, the timid Rūko and her friends come to find that the system is not as straight-forward or pure as it seems...

The series premiered on April 3, and North American anime distributor FUNimation Entertainmentstreamed the first season as it aired in Japan. The toy and game maker Takara Tomy launched theWIXOSS (pronounced like "wi-cross") card game in April.

The Selector Spread Wixoss anime is scheduled to premiere in October.

The video premiered at Comic Market 86 over the weekend.

Takuya Satō (Steins;Gate, Armitage III, Say, "I Love You"., Strawberry Marshmallow) directed the Selector Infected Wixoss anime at J.C. Staff. Mari Okada (anohana,Hana-Saku Iroha, Amazing Twins) was in charge of the series scripts, based on an original story by LRIG (Warner Entertainment Japan, Takara Tomy, J.C. Staff). Kyuta Sakai (When They Cry - Higurashi, Steins;Gate, Strawberry Marshmallow) designed the characters, and Yoshikazu Iwanami directed the sound. Maiko Iuchi (A Certain Magical Index , Dog Days, Waiting in the Summer) composed the music, while Wakeshima (Vampire Knight, To Love-Ru -Trouble- Darkness, Strike the Blood) contributed the opening theme song. Kentaro Akiyama (Studio Pablo) was the art director, and Yukiko Itou was the color key artist. Shingo Fukuyo was the director of photography, and Masahiro Goto (REAL-T) edited the series.

È in arrivo il prossimo autunno una nuova serie anime basata sul gioco di carte WIXOSS (wi-cross), la cui saga era iniziata nel corso di questa primavera con l'anime Selector infected WIXOSS. Proprio al termine dell'ultimo episodio è apparso l'annuncio con la conferma della nuova serie, che si intitolerà Selector Spread WIXOSS.

WIXOSS è un card game molto in voga tra le teenager. Si vocifera che esistano delle "Rulig Cards", delle carte raffiguranti personaggi femminili, che possiedono coscienza e volontà autonome da quelle della giocatrice. Delle ragazze speciali possono udire le voci delle Ruling, e coloro che possiedono tali carte sono denominate Selector. Le Selector si scontrano in battaglia in un’altra dimensione, a cui i comuni umani non hanno accesso. Si dice che alla vincitrice sarà garantito un desiderio. Ruko Kominato è la ragazza che ha più recentemente trovato una Rulig Card, l’ha chiama Tama, ma senza tropi preamboli e spiegazioni e viene buttata a capofitto nella realtà delle Selector.

La serie anime è stata prodotta dalla J.C Staff in partnership con la Warner Anime e la Takara Tomy (Beast Saga).

A dirigere la serie è stato il regista di Steins;Gate e Say "I love you", Takuya Satou coadiuvato da Mari Okada (Hanasaku Iroha) alla sceneggiatura e Kyuta Sakai al character design. La parte sonora è invece affidata a Yoshizaku Iwanami e Maiko Ikuchi (Dog Days, A certain Magical Index) mentre Kanon Wakeshima curerà l'opening.

Al contempo sono partiti in estate due manga spin-off dedicati alla serie: Selector infected WIXOSS -Blue Appli- disegnato da Manatsu Suzuki (Zvevda) e scritto da Mari Okada (Simoun) sulla rivista Ultra Jump di Shueisha, e Selector infected WIXOSS -Re/verse- sempre scritto da Mari Okada e disegnato da Teki Teki sulla rivista Big Gangan di Square Enix.
