King Il of Kouka, a land said in legends to have been founded by four dragons, has only one remaining heir, a daughter named Yona. She lives a happy life in the palace with her cousin Soo-won, who she loves in spite of her father's opposition to them marrying. Her life is turned upside down when Soo-won murders her father and steals the throne. Yona, with her childhood friend and bodyguard Hak, must retreat to gather allies and reclaim her place as ruler of the kingdom.

Entertainment announced that it has acquired streaming and home video rights for Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona). The show will begin streaming on Funimation's website on October 21.
Crunchyroll is already streaming the series as it airs in Japan.

Upon her sixteenth birthday, the cheerful Princess Yona intended to tell her doting father of her love for SuWon, but her life was turned upside down after witnessing the man she loves cruelly assassinating her father. Heartbroken by this painful betrayal, Princess Yona fled the palace with her loyal servant Hak. Now, she will take up the sword and the bow on a quest to gain new allies and protect her beloved people
Kazuhiro Yoneda (technical director on Gekijō-ban Tiger & Bunny -The Rising-,Aquarion Evol) is directing the anime at Studio Pierrot (The World Is Still Beautiful).Shinichi Inotsume (Hayate the Combat Butler, Zettai Karen Children) is in charge of the series scripts, and Maho Yoshikawa (Amnesia) is designing the characters.Kunihiko Ryo (The Twelve Kingdoms, Emma) is composing the music with sound director Yukio Nagasaki (Ao Haru Ride, Love Live!).
Mizuho Kusanagi, the creator of Mugen Spiral, Game X Rush, and NG Life, launchedthe Akatsuki no Yona manga in 2009, and Hakusensha published the 15th volume in September. The ninth and 15th manga volumes bundled drama CD adaptations.

Il rosso va di moda, così negli ultimi anni il mondo shoujo è stato popolato da un trittico di eroine dai capelli rossi in: Dawn of the Arcana, Akagami no shirayukihime e Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn - L'alba di Yona) di Mizuho Kusanagi. Quest’ultimo shoujo forse è il meno conosciuto qui da noi, ma in patria il manga è tutt’ora in corso e spesso piazza i suoi volumetti nella top 20 dei più venduti, questo successo di pubblico e l’ambientazione fantasy hanno favorito la scelta di adattarlo in anime TV. A dare l’annuncio c’ha pensato – lo scorso luglio - il numero 15 della rivista Hana to Yume della casa editrice Hakusensha.
Kazuhiro Yoneda (direttore tecnico nel film Tiger & Bunny Movie 2: The Rising, Aquarion Evol) dirige il progetto presso lo Studio Pierrot, che ha di recente realizzato l’adattamento di un'altro shoujo fantasy, Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii (The World Is Still Beautiful). Shinichi Inotsume (Hayate no Gotoku!, Zettai Karen Children) cura la sceneggiatura, Maho Yoshikawa (Amnesia) disegna i personaggi, Kunihiko Ryo (Emma - Una storia romantica) compone le musiche con l’aiuto del direttore del suono Yukio Nagasaki (A un passo da te, Love Live!).
Mizuho Kusanagi (Mugen Spiral, Game X Rush, NG Life) ha lanciato il suo manga nel 2009 e la Hakusensha ha pubblicato il XIV volume lo scorso aprile. L'opera annovera Kentaro Miura tra i suoi estimatori, infatti il sensei ha omaggiato l'autrice con un'illustrazione dedicata.
